MEETING WITH ASSEMBLYMAN WAGNER

http://arc.asm.ca.gov/member/AD68/

Assemblyman Don Wagner, above, began the meeting, by swooping into the room with an announcement from NumbersUSA in his hand, denouncing the email because he said, they falsely claimed he supports amnesty.

Repeatedly, Assemblyman Wagner said he does not support amnesty.

Assemblyman Wagner said he “stands behind” his signature on the CA Republican State Legislators letter requesting that California Republican Congress Members call for Speaker Boehner to bring a comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship bill forward for a vote in the House of Representatives.

Assemblyman Wagner conducted an informal meeting, interacting with attendees.

Assemblyman Wagner said the Western Growers Association did not request he sign the letter.  He said the letter originated from the “Republican Caucus.”

LETTER DOES NOT REPRESENT CONSTITUENTS
Constituents stated that his signing of the comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship letter was an action that does not represent his constituents.
There is only one line in support of border security in the six paragraph letter.

Assemblyman Wagner distributed a document with immigration statistics formulated by the Public Policy Institute of California – a liberal and pro-illegal alien public policy think tank. View a summary of the report Assemblyman Wagner distributed at the end of this report. The PPIC Report claims 83 percent of Californians support comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. Assemblyman Wagner referenced the PPIC findings and stated a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens is supported in California.  http://www.ppic.org/main/president.asp

Constituents quoted statistics that Californians and U.S. citizens want immigration laws enforced.  And stated surveys can be rigged.

NEW, NO AMNESTY LETTER PRESENTED FOR SIGNATURE
Robert Lauten, of NCIR, presented a letter for Assemblyman Wagner to sign in opposition to comprehensive immigration reform in the House of Representatives. Assemblyman Wagner would not sign the letter. He kept the letter to review.

When Robert Lauten asked about the “economic renaissance” referenced in the comprehensive immigration reform letter, Assemblyman Wagner claimed if illegal aliens are legalized their underground economy will provide an “economic renaissance.”

Attendees disagreed with his analysis.

Legalized illegal aliens would utilize more social services. Also, it was stated that American citizens work for cash and therefore, legalized illegal aliens would continue to work for cash.

Assemblyman Wagner said you cannot deport “12 million illegal immigrants.” Constituents responded that if entitlements and jobs were removed, they would self deport or “repatriate” to their home countries and, thereby, jobs for unemployed Americans would then be available.

ASSEMBLYMAN SAID ILLEGAL ALIENS DO NOT COMMIT MORE CRIMES THAN CITIZENS
When crimes committed by illegal aliens was referenced, Assemblyman Wagner claimed they do not commit more crimes than the general public.  Attendees strongly disagreed and responded with statistics.

It was pointed out that more than 30 percent of inmates in the USA are illegal aliens.

Constituent Adrienne Murphy talked about the facts of her auto accident injury at the hands of an illegal alien. She told Assemblyman Wagner about her “friends” who have had loved ones killed by illegal aliens. She talked about the Jamiel Shaw family and the execution of high school football star Jamiel Shaw, II, by an illegal alien gang member.  She gave details about Don Rosenberg’s son, Drew, who was killed by an illegal alien driver in San Francisco. She talked about Sabine Durden’s son, a sheriff dispatcher in Riverside County, Dominic Durden, was killed by an illegal alien driver with an extensive record as was Brenda Sparks’ son, Eric, who was killed when an illegal alien driver turned in front of his motorcycle in Yucaipa, CA.

She presented a report in opposition to the letter that included information that Democrat CA State Legislators are seeking to fund DMV programs so illegal aliens can obtain their driver’s licenses at this time rather than the appointed period of January 2015.

AB 60 CA DRIVER’S LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS
The assemblyman was asked what identification will be used by an illegal alien to obtain the AB 60 CA driver’s license.  He said he did not know.

Assemblyman Wagner said that illegal aliens, in general, will not obtain the driver’s licenses because the driver’s license card will indicate their illegal status.

RACIST REPUBLICANS
Assemblyman Wagner said that Republicans are viewed as racists by “Hispanic communities” because Republicans have opposed immigration bills.

He said the Republican Party must appeal to Hispanic communities by promoting comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. Democrats are gaining Hispanic voters because of their stance on immigration. He said that when Hispanic communities are visited by Republicans that Hispanics think that
“Republicans want to deport my grandma.”  So he repeatedly said that Republicans have to change their racist image by supporting comprehensive immigration reform.

The conversation was very spirited that ensued.

The entitlements that Democrats offer was presented as the reason illegal aliens support Democrat candidates. It was said that endorsing amnesty will not increase votes for Republican candidates and that it will actually bring on the demise of the Republican Party.

When several attendees said illegal aliens seek entitlements and therefore elect Democrat candidates, Assemblyman Wagner said he does not support entitlements.

Assemblyman Wagner made himself available to debate the issue of immigration law, and he continued to informally meet with the group even after the meeting ended.

He and his staff said that constituents are always welcome at the office.

A notebook with a Western Growers Association promotion of the letter time line; articles in OC Register in opposition to the letter; reports of “thank you” meetings with Republican State Legislators who did not sign the letter; photos of pro-illegal alien demonstrators utilizing the WGA ad as protest signs aimed at Congressmen Royce and Campbell; and reports from meetings with Congress Members in opposition to the letter were left with Assemblyman Wagner.

BELOW ARE THE FIRST TWO PAGES OF THE Public Policy Institute of California – a “liberal” public policy think tank, survey results, which Assemblyman Wagner distributed at the meeting.  Attendees refuted the study with statistics from NumbersUSA and FAIR.

BACKGROUND INFO Republican Congressman Jeff Denham of Modesto, CA, who held a Modesto, CA,  immigration listening session at a Catholic Church and invited Judiciary Subcommittee Immigration Chairman Trey Gowdy (R) SC, on 4/13/13.  Congressman Denham arranged for more than 500 illegal aliens and their supporters to attend the listening session on immigration that  exclusively featured panelists and guests who support legalization of illegal aliens.  Raymond Herrera was the only person who spoke during the 2 hour immigration session who did not support amnesty, and Herrera had to “finagle” organizers in order to be allowed to speak at the immigration forum, hosted by Congressman Jeff Denham.

TODAY Republican Congressman Jeff Denham has announced that he will be the first  Republican to cosponsor Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Democrat amnesty bill – which mirrors the Gang of 8 Senate Amnesty Bill.
California Rep. Jeff Denham is signing on as the first Republican among 185 Democrats as a co-sponsor on a broad immigration overhaul bill being pushed before the end of this year.

Denham said he expects more Republicans to come on board.
